Meet Our Trainers
Becky
Hi, I’m Becky, one of the personal trainers and coaches working at R&B Partners Personal Training Services. I would like to share a little about myself and my passion for health and fitness:
I guess you could say I have had a love for health and wellness from a very young age. I remember watching my mother as she would attend classes at the local YMCA or at community education groups and I always thought it looked like so much fun! When I became older, I would participate in my mom’s exercise videos and fell in love with movement. This continued until college when I became overwhelmed with college life and responsibilities and wasn’t as consistent as I would have liked to have been. After discovering that exercise and nutrition helped control my anxiety and depression I reunited with my passion in my mid 20’s and became a certified group exercise instructor in 1997. Later, in 2008, I pursued my Personal Trainer and Sports Nutrition Specialist certifications just before my divorce.
From that point on, I have acquired other certifications including Corrective Exercise Specialist, Nutritionist and certifications specializing in various group exercises styles. I have worked for numerous fitness facilities, businesses, schools and community groups as a personal trainer and instructor teaching classes that include Zumba, Pilates and Yoga, HIIT, Spin and various modalities of strength training. Although I love working with all demographics, I specialize in working with people who are new to fitness and those recovering from injuries or who may have some limitations due to age or past injuries. I am always continuing my education and my most recent hope is to acquire my certification with Girls Gone Strong so I can further help not only myself but also other women who are struggling with the effects of menopause and perimenopause.
I look forward to learning more about how I can help you as you begin or continue your fitness and wellness journey!
Becky is also the owner of a Snap Fitness franchise, located in Spring Lake, Michigan. Click on the Snap Fitness link at the top of the page if interested in more information about Snap Fitness Spring Lake memberships or classes.
Whether you’re new to exercise and fitness, have some experience, or have plenty of experience, and no matter what your age, current fitness level, and health status is, we can help you reach your goals in your fitness journey.
Ryan
Welcome to R&B Partners Personal Training Services! I’m Ryan, one of the personal trainers and coaches that may be working with you as you begin, or continue, your journey towards your health and wellness goals. I’d like to share a little bit about who I am:
Years ago, like most young adults starting a life of their own, I had a family and a full-time job. Life was great! However, back then I did not take into consideration my nutrition or my fitness. Why would I, I was young. Inevitably, like most people, time caught up with me. As I aged, I was tired, had brain fog, and was overweight, mostly due to the lack of any real physical fitness activity and poor nutrition.
In my early 40’s I decided it was time to take a good look at myself and my health, and I found that I didn’t like what I saw. I was a 5’9”, 189lb. middle aged man who was spending too much time sitting and watching tv, eating out, and eating too much junk food. I was tired of the way I felt and looked. I saw friends and family in poor health needing to be on medication for multiple health issues and I did not want that. So, I decided that I had to make changes!!
I started small which consisted of taking walks, eating less and eating more nutrient rich foods, plus I got my butt off the couch and started doing some exercises at home. After a few months of better nutrition, and some exercise, I was able to lose almost 40lbs. I liked that I had lost weight, but I did not like that I also lost muscle. Not wanting to be too skinny, and lacking the strength needed for everyday life, I joined a neighborhood gym to try and build muscle and strength. When I joined, I was 42 years old, 152lbs. with 22% body fat. I could barely bench press 115lbs., deadlift 185lbs., or squat 185lbs. But I was hooked! I loved the way working out made me feel!
Since then, I have been a consistent gym member and have tried other things to explore the world of fitness, like Zumba, Yoga, Hiking, Pilates, and Running, and I even hired a personal trainer. My desire to learn more about fitness, and more specifically strength training for my own goals, led me to become a personal trainer myself. At the age of 52 I accomplished that goal. During my journey, one of the most important lessons I have learned is the importance of a healthy nutrient rich diet, and what that consists of.
With the knowledge I have acquired, I made the changes to my life habits that improved my overall health and strength. I am now in the best health of my adult life! I also found that with proper nutrition, strength training, and rest & recovery time, it IS possible to grow muscle and improve strength over the age of 40, and even over the age of 50 and beyond. Currently, at 56 years old, I am 166lbs. and 15% body fat. I can bench press 225lbs., deadlift 325lbs., and squat 275lbs. all without the use of steroids or diet pills. I’m not “jacked” or “ripped”, just healthy & fit, and on NO MEDICATIONS. These increases in strength and health did not just happen overnight or happen because I became a personal trainer. It’s a combination of dedication to healthy habits and a commitment to making positive life changes that most anyone can accomplish. I’m not perfect, I have good days and bad days just like everyone else, and I still work a fulltime job, have family commitments, and a life. Having healthy habits leads to having a healthier life, but you must want it and must make it a priority. Let’s work together to get you to where you want your healthy life to be.
